Part 2

Context: You were adopted by a wealthy man at a young age. Your older brother was adopted shortly before you, and the two of you grew up quite close, despite not being blood. Your father is a billionaire with a propensity for getting into trouble, enough that a secret agent by the name of Agent Gray was a regular fixture throughout the last few years. You have your problems like every family, but you consider yourself very fortunate... for the most part. It would have been better if Agent Gray hadn't decided to act the fool tonight.

[Scene opens within a mansion]

[SFX: Light classical music and the Listener walking the halls]

[You meander the halls of your home, bored. When you see a familiar man waiting outside of your father’s office]

[Pause!]

[Agent Gray offers something of a smile when he sees you]

[G] “Well. Miss Pumpkin, making an appearance, hm? To what do I owe the honor?”

[Pause]

[He laughs]

[G] “True, I’m the one just sitting here waiting on your Dad to call me into his office. But, you missed me? You know I can only come around when your old man gives me problems, right? It’s always nice to see you, too, sweetheart, regardless. How have your studies been keeping?”

[Pause]

[G] “Ooh, really keeping above board, huh? There’s a good girl - focusing on your studies and your future, unlike Nicodemus… Where is your big brother, huh? Not around to cause problems today?”

[...]

[G] “Hey, hey, c’mon… I know you two are close. Nic is a good young man, he just has your old man’s propensity for, ah… getting into mischief. I always assumed it was a billionaire thing, you know? Once you have it all, once you’ve bought everything you’ve ever fancied, what’s left but to stir up a little trouble, eh?”

[Pause]

[Agent Gray seems slightly taken aback]

[G] “Wait… you and Nic are both adopted? I… didn’t know that.”

[Pause]

[G] “Well… That does my heart a little good… I’ll admit, you and Nic have always seemed a little… too close… Pumpkin, be honest with me - are you getting hurt here?”

[SFX: A door opening and fancy dress shoes crossing the floor]

[K] “Agent Gray! It’s been some time, my friend. How the Hell are ya, huh?”

[The two men shake hands]

[G] “Just catching up with Pumpkin a bit, Kilian.”

[Your father ruffles your hair, much to your annoyance]

[K] “Daddy’s girl! Avoiding all the temptations her brother and father get into to keep the family name respectable. You know your old man appreciates it, right, Pumpkin?”

[Pause]

[K] “Thatta girl! C’mon, Gray, let’s get to talking. I’m sure you’ve got all sorts of shady evidence to show me, huh? Heheheh! Ah, I love it when you try and blackmail me, my friend. Pumpkin, Nic should be home in a few minutes. Be a good girl and make sure he knows I want him here, yeah?”

[Pause]

[K] “Many thanks, my princess. And try not to let your brother get under your skin.”

[SFX: The two men walking off and the door shutting]

[You go on about your business while Gray speaks with your father]

[G] “Alright, Kilian… Let’s get down to business. We know you have the asset.”

[K, with a laugh] “Asset? Gray, I have MANY assets. Hundreds of bodyguards, endless riches, a date with a very fine lady that’s all about single DILFs. Life is good, but I get the feeling this is about something else entirely…”

[SFX: A faint gun click]

[K, chuckling] “Oh, Gray… You really don’t want to do that. Nic’s gonna be home any second. You really want to shoot a single Dad in front of his kids?”

[Pause]

[G, calm] “Kilian… These are non-human entities that are incredibly dangerous. The Quandry needs them back in captivity so they can hinder any behavior that’s going to make them completely inhospitable to humans… Please just surrender it peacefully. I don’t want to do this. I don’t want Pumpkin or Nic to see you like this.”

[...]

[SFX: Alarms blaring, soldiers hurrying in and being given commands]

[K] “Ah. Called in the special squad, huh? I hope you told them not to hurt my kids, Gray… No god could help you if you hurt my kids. Cigar?”

[G] “No harm will come to them, so long as you surrender.”

[K] “Damn. Hey, Pumpkin? Could you do me a favor and go say hello to the mean men that want to hurt Daddy?”

[Pause]

[G] “No, Kilian, what are you doing?! They’ll shoot her!”

[K] “Hear that, sweetheart? They might shoot you!”

[SFX: Gunfire, screaming, and general unpleasant blood splatter]

[G] “Stevens? Stevens?! Clark?!?! Come in! What is happening out there?!”

[SFX: More intense action and death]

[G, standing] “Kilian, call off the asset! Now!”

[K] “Or…?”

[SFX: A gun cocking]

[G] “Or else I blow that smug grin on your face off!”

[Kilian smiles and chuckles before he lights a cigar and calls out:]

[K] “Pumpkin! Daddy needs you for a sec, hon!”

[SFX: The doors being kicked in and Pumpkin tackling Gray]

[G] “Gahh! P-Pumpkin?! Y-You’re the…?!”

[K] “Sweetie, don’t growl with your mouth full of a man’s neck. Ease off… Gray’s beat and he knows it. Sides, it sounds like Nic’s home. Nic! C’mon, we’re having family time in my office!”

[...]

[Your older brother, Nicodemus, glides into the room with his usual gothic charm]

[N] “Agent Gray… Wasn’t expecting you to be here by the time I got back from my business trip. How’ve you been? Still enjoying snowboarding?”

[G] “W-What…? Nic, you too?”

[The three of you stand over Gray, blood dribbling down your chin]

[N] “Hey. You going to share some of that blood and flesh with your big brother, or not?”

[Pause]

[You roll your eyes and tilt your head up so he can snag some of the flesh in your mouth. He growls at you, a little, and you growl back]

[K] “Kids, play nice… You two can have your sparring sessions later.”

[G, in disbelief] “...Two…? H-How do you have two Quandry assets just casually living under your roof?!”

[Pause]

[K] “You know, that’s a great question. See, these two are interesting. Both are vampiric, both can shapeshift, apparate, have mild telekinesis, and so on. But, Gray, being a single Dad is rough. These two have to be my kids, but they’re naturally drawn to each other. I guess I’m fortunate that rich people can get away with taboo things, hm? I couldn’t take one without the other! Package deal!”

[Agent Gray looks at you, face knotted in concern]

[G] “Gods above, Kilian! Even if they aren’t human, gods know how much you’re fucking them up with that kind of mixed messaging!”

[Pause]

[Nic drapes an arm around you, completely nonchalant]

[N] “We can’t exactly be open about it, no… and, granted, sometimes I have to kill anyone that gets too sweet on my ‘little sister’, here, but we keep to ourselves, Agent. At least until some idiot decides to try and raid our home… Pumpkin, were you nice about cutting those men down?”

[Pause]

[Nic rolls his eyes playfully]

[N] “Such a softie… and you couldn’t even bring down Gray here, could you?”

[...]

[K] “Now, now, Nic, give her a break. Agent Gray’s been in her life for some time, now! Saying goodbye is difficult. Sorry, Gray. I’ll always be fond of you, but I can’t have you breaking up this happy little home, can I?”

[Pause]

[G] “For fuck’s sake, don’t DO this! They might be young adults now, but you’ve raised two entities that need support to live normally! Kilian!”

[SFX: A slight scuffle as Gray is picked up and dragged away]

[G] “KILIAN-!”

[SFX: Heavy doors slamming shut]

[Pause…]

[Your father pats you on the head]

[K] “Ah, don’t worry, sweetheart. I’m not gonna have him killed immediately. Have to torture some info out of him first, but you’ll have a chance to say goodbye properly. OK? Do you two want some pizza? Fast food?”

[Nic wipes the blood from his lips and smiles]

[N] “That sounds good, Dad.”

[Pause]

[K] “Great! I’ll get Jeeves to put out the order for our usual. You two get cleaned up, and I’ll see you in the kitchen. Good job today, kids! Real proud of ya. Now… Lemme get out of the room before you start up with your, no offense, weird vampire shit.”

[SFX: Kilian exiting the room and shutting the door behind him]

[Nic hardly waits before he turns to you, eyes burning red]

[N] “I’m not used to you being the one hunting and killing our prey, you know…”

[...]

[N] “It’s cute. I hope I get to see it again before too long… ‘Pumpkin’.”

[He leans down and gives you a kiss atop your head before he straightens]

[N] “‘Weird vampire shit’ is going to have to wait until after hours, I think. ‘Dad’ always underestimates how we get after a big kill. I have missed you, though… Hunting down rivals in Istanbul just isn’t as much fun without hearing people scream when you reveal how… ‘cute’ you are…”

[...]

[N] “...Gray made his choice. He could’ve stayed content being bought off, getting to look at you from afar, but no. He had to bring ‘honor’ and ‘morals’ into this. Had to go trying to be the big, tough asshole to save the sweet billionaire’s daughter who was ‘innocent’ in all of this… right?”

[...]

[N] “You’ll get over it. C’mon. Burgers.”

[SFX: Nic padding off]

[You hesitate as blood dribbles down your chin to the floor below. Your body knows where it wants to be - with Nic. Your mind, on the other hand… you simply don’t know anymore.]

[SFX: The Listener following after Nic, presumably]
