I've lurked on this subreddit and this is my first post! I took my NIC Interview and Performance test last month and got disheartening results. I was under the assumption that I did decently well; my interpretation was rated as marginal (passing), but my ethical interview was rated as poor (failed), and my ultimate score was 414. If I had simply gotten a marginal (passing) result or a good (passing) result for the ethics, I would have passed! My confusion is that there is no standard to how one should pass the test.
My question for folks who passed this test on this portion, what specifics did you do?
- I did not mention specific numbers of illustrative behaviors, but alluded to them
- I did a resummarization, listed my three chosen tenets, expanded upon each one, then wrapped it up with a second re-summarization.
- On one of the scenarios, I wasn't sure what to place for my third tenet, so I defaulted to "Respect to Colleagues" by saying if this interpreter had gone ahead to do the opposite action, they would've hurt the community by setting the precedent for other interpreter's. Which always seems like a safe bet to go forward with, but I guess not?
I'm essentially deeply confused how I scored a poor (worst) score for the ethical interview when I had thought I was in the clear? I was more concerned with interpretation! LOL.
What did folks do that made them pass, or feel like it helped them pass!
