Title says it all. What is your regular rate followed by conference rates... and if you want to add more details without losing confidentiality, go for it...
Regular Rate $60 - 70/hr... Conference Rate (IDK?! 80? 90?) Based in West Coast, 20 yrs experience with 5 being certified (I'm Deaf-Parented if that explains)
This is the context that I would love help with cause I'm wrapping my brain around this.
Was asked in a mass email to ASL interpret a conference with a specific request for certain identities (I fit the bill for all). I've been in the field for 20 years but only professionally (certified) in the last 5 years doing high-level work (legal, medical, military, govt, academia). My regular rate is $60 with this agency, but they are small and are partnering with a HUGE organization to help fly in more interpreters... now in "competition" with other interpreters on my home turf cause there's not enough of us specific identified interpreters who are certified and knowledgable on the conference matters... they have to partner and fly in others. My curiosity is how much more should I pitch... is $90 fair, is $100 better? Especially if other interpreters will get flight accommodated, plus hotel, plus transport where as local homebody me just commutes during traffic to work all day then leave...
My concern with conference rates is that it's such a fishtank with crumbs of food, where we're all competing with base rates, plus subject matter, if they're asking for certain lived experiences, and not considering incidentals, like meals, transportation, lodging, flights...
Rest in peace, conference work is lovely, but the way I have to pitch myself is excruciating.
