The Count of Monte Cristo- Final Wrap-Up discussion
Post Body

Thoughts on the book, overall? (discussion about the entire book)

  1. How would you rate this book, on a scale of 1-10? What parts were the best? What parts were the worst and should have been deleted? Did you feel the book was perfect, as far as the length, or should it have been longer? Or possibly shorter? What did you want to read MORE about?
  2. Re-read? Would you read this again? Would you pick up a different edition next time? Which one did you read? Would you recommend this book to a friend, or to any group of rando strangers on the Internet?
  3. Based on Chapter 1, did you expect Edmond Dantes' journey to end up as it did in Chapter 117? Dantes' evolution went from hero, to victim of injustice, to hero, to anti-hero, to almost villain, to flawed hero. Do you like your protagonists to be as flawed and sometimes as mistaken as Dantes was? Or are you looking for a paragon of virtue?
  4. Comparing Dantes' fate to J-V-J in L-M- by V-H-, whose character arc did you prefer?
  5. Was there ever a time when you were a Count of Monte Cristo IRL? When you got revenge, in a very indirect but tangible way, on someone powerful who mistreated you? Do tell?
  6. Does this book set the standard for "revenge porn", and any/every other book you read about revenge will always be compared against the Count of Monte Cristo?
  7. If you could re-write Mercedes' fate, what WOULD you write?
  8. Anything else about the book, overall that you wanna talk about?
