Since spoiler markings aren't shown on mobile, please use the Spoilers Topic to discuss events from later in the book.
Discussion starters:
1.) Did anyone else think the mysterious figure showing up to the inn was going to be the Count? Instead, it was Debray. What did you think of Debray's coldness towards Mme. Danglars in this chapter? Is he trying to distance himself from the family? He seemed more affected by seeing Albert at the end, offering Albert the help and concern that Mme. Danglars was waiting for.
2.) What happened to the Morcerfs was also Haydée's revenge. We haven't gotten to hear much about her since, and at this rate we may never again. Do you think she would be satisfied with how Albert handled it?
3.) The end of this chapter sees a second mysterious figure appear. This one is probably the Count, as he is thinking about how to fix what he has done to this these two innocents. Is it just me, or are there two other innocents in more urgent trouble as a result of his actions?
4). Other points of discussion?
Final Line:
“Alas,” he exclaimed, “how can I restore the happiness I have taken away from these poor innocent creatures? God help me!”
The next discussion will be up this Saturday.
