Maximilian did dance with Valentine, three times and the count didn’t notice, and Dumas didn’t let us know. Since the count notices everything, I can only assume it's a sign of the state he was in at Mercedes's ball. I would have liked to have seen that scene though. I imagine they would have been so happy to enjoy each other’s company in public.
The moment the count reveals who he is really struck me. I got emotional.
"Morrel, I do not want your father's son to die this day."
I enjoy the scenes with Julie and the family because it’s the only time he allows himself to feel joy. It’s striking compared to his more bloodthirsty moments.
- He won’t tell Maximilian that Valentine only faked her death. Could she still be asleep and he’s not sure his plan worked? I think it’s been too long. So why toy with him like this? It’s like he’s asking for trouble.

Last line:
Maximilien bent his head and obeyed, like a child or a disciple.
