Replacing the poison to freak out Madame Villefort was a boss move. I even like how Dumas didn't tell us when the count did it. He's actually out to get Villefort though, why do you think he's messing with his wife like that? Will it bring the truth out and harm Villefort? Or do you think he wants to punish the wife for the murders she's committed with his help?
In one of the earlier chapters the count came to speak to Nortier, but we didn't see any of their conversation. Do you think he told him that he was going to fake Valentine's death to help save her? Because if he doesn't know, he might die when he finds out that she's gone.
In a similar note, it would seem that he hasn't told Morrel what he's up to. The narration makes it clear that he only knows that she was getting better and the count promised that she'd live. So now that he's seen her "dead," why wouldn't the count have told him of his plan?
Last line:
"Dead! Dead!"
