Since spoiler markings aren't shown on mobile, please use the Spoilers Topic to discuss events from later in the book.
Discussion starters:
1.) Sometimes the narration that opens a chapter can be boring, but the detached scene setting here was great. It also tells us that the Count apparently failed to reveal who "le Corse Benedetto" is. Do you think the Count will remember at a more convenient time? Is it fitting that the Count doesn't do what he can to tell what he knows of the crime, after Caderousse failed to report the conspiracy that put Dantès in the Château d'If?
2.) Duel's off, and Beauchamp says he'll keep mum, but this can't be the end of it. My hope is to see Albert eventually confront his father over it, but where do you think this is going? Since he's going to the Count's do you think he might want to talk to Haydée again?
3.) Add Albert to the list of characters who are starting to suspect there is a secret enemy afoot. Do you think someone will figure it out?
4.) Other points of discussion? It sounds like Lord Wilmore may have made a visit to Beauchamp.
Final Line:
“Gladly,” said Albert; “let us call—I love him.”
The next discussion will be up this Saturday.
