Sorry for the late post, everyone. I got mixed up from the extra day off yesterday (Labor Day in US) and forgot it was my day to make it.
Discussion starters:
1.) Ah, Caderousse, living for wedding parties. Clearly he has changed after being in prison. The French even described him as Benedetto's "dangerous" friend, when I would think it's more the opposite. I thought La Carconte was the dangerous one, but clearly Caderousse now has a mindset of taking blood for diamonds. Predictions for how his assassination attemp goes? Do you think the Count knows his whereabouts and associations?
2.) The Benedetto-Caderousse relationship seems even closer than I thought. It sounds like they were imprisoned together, though something was mentioned of a "M. Chose," whose place they escaped(?). Thoughts on this relationship?
3.) It appears that the Count is trying to make Benedetto/Andrea think he is his father. This is such a weird plan I can't understand it. How does this benefit the Count? So far Benedetto is being used more in a way that would hurt Danglars than Villefort.
4.) Other points of discussion?
Final Line:
“Dear Benedetto,” said he, “I think he will not be sorry to inherit his fortune, and he who hastens the day when he can touch his five hundred thousand will not be his worst friend.”
The next discussion will be up this Saturday.
