Since spoiler markings aren't shown on mobile, please use the Spoilers Topic to discuss events from later in the book.
Discussion starters:
1.) Before reading this chapter, I expected that Noirtier would be found dead (poisoned) based on the title. I'm very pleased to see that he may play a larger role. That said, what do you think of his relationship with Villefort? This is a much more antagonistic relationship than what we saw in Chapter 12.
2.) While I am not very familiar with the politics that might be behind this, it seems like we are seeing alignments where the bonapartistes are the good guys against the royalist characters. When you read this book, do you feel like Dumas was on a certain side, or any other thoughts about it?
3). For a while the story was focused on what the Count was doing, and we followed him from one action to another. But now other characters, such as Valentine and Noirtier, have important side plots or revenge agendas of their own. How do you think they will intersect with what the Count is doing?
4.) Other points of discussion?
Final Line:
And the old servant departed triumphantly.
The next discussion will be up this Saturday.
Edit: Removed a bit of text left over from last week. Sorry for any confusion.
