We’re still looking for some extra help with moderating this sub. So, if you’re interested please send us a message.
Discussion starters:
1.) Dumas writes in a detailed way how Edmond declines into a state of depression which is accompanied with suicidal thoughts. Do you think you need to have been depressed yourself to be able to write about such strong emotions, and therefore think Dumas must have been depressed himself in his life, or should every good writer be able to write about these sort of emotional states?
2.) We get introduced to a new character: First name: Number, last name: 27. Do you expect him to be someone we already know or someone new to the story?
3.) While Edmond immediately tells Mr. N. 27 everything he asks of him, Number 27 isn’t so quick to trust Edmond. Do you think Edmond is again being naïve by trusting Sir. 27 with this information or do you feel like he has nothing to lose anyway?
Final Line:
Then, in the bottom of this dark hole, the depth of which he was unable to assess, he saw a head appear, then some shoulders and finally a whole man, who emerged, with a fair degree of agility, from the pit they had dug.
Next discussion will be up this Saturday.
