Chapter 115 / CXV - “Luigi Vampa’s Bill of Fare” reading discussion
Post Body
The absurdity of the “menu” prices, pitting hunger against love of money, produces the kind of psychological torture I’d always assumed was at the heart of TCoMC!
- In Chapter 111 (“Expiation”), when he sees Villefort digging madly and pathetically for his lost son, the count questions the justness of his vengeance and utters something about saving “the last one”; assuming he’s referring to Danglars (since Fernand is dead and Villefort has gone insane), what do you think the count’s role has been and/or will be in Danglars’ encounter with the bandits?
Final sentence of chapter:
“As for Peppino, he read the paper carefully, put it in his pocket and went on eating his chick peas.”
