Chapter 49 / XLIX - “Haydée” reading discussion
Post Body

1) What, if anything, do you make of the fact that this chapter, whose title suggests that it will give answers about Haydée, is the shortest chapter (so far, at least) and seems only to raise more questions about her?

2) Is there a connection between the way Haydée is presented physically in this chapter and Dumas’ (likely) naming and modeling her after a passionate young woman in Byron’s satirical “Don Juan”?

Final sentence of chapter:

“He stepped into it and the horses, as always, set off at a gallop.”
