Chapter 26 / XXVI - “At the Sign of the Pont du Gard” reading discussion
Post Body

The return of Caderousse!

1) On the one hand, Caderousse doesn’t seem overly kind to his wife; on the other hand, he’s had the misfortune of having the nearby canal ruin his inn’s financial prospects. Does he deserve our sympathy?

2) Does Caderousse’s description of his relationship with Dantès ring true?

3) In the early chapters, I wondered about the significance of wine; does the presence of a bottle here seem meaningful?

Final sentence of chapter:

”And he began his tale.”
