1) Based on our reading schedule, there’s still about 80% of the story to come! As people have commented in previous years, it’s sort of hard to fathom what could possibly take up another thousand pages… do you think Dumas had the entire plot worked out before he first set pen to paper? Or do you think he left himself room to invent complications and build in side plots over the 17-month course of the serial publication?
2) I’ve generally avoided posing questions about what might happen in later chapters, because TCoMC seems particularly susceptible to spoilers. But if you were Dantès now, how would you safeguard the treasure??
Final sentence of chapter:
”That night was one of only a few nights, at once terrible and delicious, which this man of powerful feelings had spent in his life.”
