History
300AC: Harren is born as the first son to Lord Donnor Saltcliffe
300-320AC: Harren is raised on Saltcliffe in his family’s keep. He is raised by his father to be both an able seaman and a competent lord. His education is decidedly more scholarly than many on the islands, spending as much time with the castle maester as with the local captains. He sets his talents toward directing his family’s holdings both rock and salt as he comes into manhood.
320AC: Through the influence of his father, Harren’s sister Sig is married to the heir of Pyke, Quellon.
320-337AC: Harren takes advantage of Rodrik’s warming of relations with the Greenlanders to build trade networks for Saltcliffe, traveling to port cities in the West and Reach in search of new commercial prospects. He is able to entice some experts from the mainland to come to Saltcliffe and help to improve the economy of the island. While he is busy with these pursuits, his brother Harlan embraces the Old Way, and his raiding brings its own wealth to Saltcliffe while the Greyjoys are lenient about the practice.
332AC: Harren’s sister Sig, married to Quellon the heir to Pyke, dies in childbirth on Pyke. The child is stillborn.
337AC: Lord Donnor passes and Harren is proclaimed as Lord of Saltcliffe
350AC: During Quellon’s purge of those who had taken to the Old Way, Lord Harren’s brother Harlan is put to death. Harren feels deep guilt that he could not save his brother, and rage that a man who had married into his family would not show him mercy. He keeps his rage private, but is known to call Quellon a kinslayer in private.
356AC: Quellon forbids his bannermen from taking part in the campaign in Essos, and while Harren had no intention of setting sail himself he sees the act as one of profound cowardice. His captains had anticipated bringing significant spoils back from the East, and their grumbling did not go unheard by the Lord of Saltcliffe. His sons, Urron and Theon begin to influence their father toward embracing the Old Way lest the Iron Islands allow itself to fade further into poverty and obscurity.
358AC: Quellon is found dead on Pyke, before he can proclaim his heir before his bannermen and his daughter Herra seizes the Seastone Chair. While Harren’s disdain of Quellon is well known, who he will back in the succession is less than clear.

History
While his father is a builder and a man of careful planning and introspection, Urron is a man of action. Trained to fight and to sail, he took as his inspiration the ironmen of old. Urron was born in 320AC, during the relative peace of the reign of Rodrik. While his younger years are spent on Saltcliffe, when he reached his fourteenth name day he was able to accompany his father on his voyages of trade. While these were an adequate training for the young lordling on the workings of a ship, the young boy was perhaps more familiar with the crew than his father would have wanted. Still, this endeared him to the men, who told him the tales of the ironborn and their history as conquerors and reavers. These tales, with their less delicate sensibilities, caught young Urron’s attention and interest far more than anything the maester would teach him from some dusty old tome. When he reached manhood, he was quick to get his father’s permission to sail with his uncle Harlan aboard his ship the Widow’s Lament.
It was there that Urron got his first taste of reaving. Beyond the merchant lanes of the Sunset Sea and the reach of the Lord Reaper and the Iron Throne, ironborn raiders began to make their presence known again. Urron fought alongside Harlan, plundering the holds of Essosi merchants of their valuable goods and in some cases their crews. They were rightly feared and could even begin to approach the more stable returns of his father’s convoys. That all changed when Quellon sat upon the Seastone Chair. He had no interest in suffering the reavers who had challenged his father’s authority. The captains who had cut a bloody path across the Narrow Sea were punished cruelly, and the men of Saltcliffe were no exception. Quellon might have thought it a mercy to take his uncle and spare him as heir, but neither Urron nor his father saw it that way. Urron only held his tongue because his father commanded it of him, but from that day forth he had no respect for the Kraken Pup. He idolized his uncle, and embraced the Old Way all the more. His tales were more than enough to convince his younger brother Theon, but his father would prove more hesitant. His father was all too clear about what such a decision might cost him in the end, and Urron could not begrudge him that even if he believe his caution would be wasted on Quellon.
Urron cared little for the decree that ironborn were not to make their way east during the war, sneaking away to serve with the ironmen of the West. He brought shares of spoils back with him, with his father allowing the ships on to Saltcliffe under cover of darkness to hide the illicit acts. What started as an act of fatherly love became the first act in convincing his father to embrace the Old Way. Essosi treasure would open that door, but it was his impassioned speaking that would sway his father’s mind and heart. He attends with him at Summerhall, to ensure his father makes the right friends and puts Saltcliffe on the path to greatness.
