History:
Harlon was the first born child of Howland and Sansa Karstark. As the first born child he was raised to be the strong future figurehead of Karhold. Strong of mind and stronger of arm Harlon quickly made a name for himself among his many tutors.
As he grew Harlon found that there was something about himself that was different from his other brothers. While they were off filling their freetime with dreams of battle and glory, Harlon found his love of figures and gold. Soon he would be found late into the hours of the night pouring over his father's ledgers and fixing discrepancies he would find. Howland, who soon found out that the corrections were coming from his eldest son turned the prime focus of his studies to economics.
When Harlon was twenty he had two life moments that changed the path of leadership he would have. The first was the birth of his son Alaric. The second was an accident that he suffered while riding. His horse broke its leg and fell on his upper body crushing his sword arm. While he was unable to swing a blade like his fellow northmen he honed in harder on his skills of numbers. If he could not gain glory through battle he would do so by making Karhold on of the richest houses in the North.
When Harlon was 25 his father passed in his sleep after a bout with illness. The new Lord found himself in a role power that up to that point he had only thought of. He fell into the role as a man who felt he had to prove with worth to his people. While his brothers could gain respect through fighting side by side with the soldiers traveling south to avenge Queen Daena, Harlon was forced to stay behind and gain respect through feeding their people. He was not able to stay in Karhold called the northern lords to Winterfell for council. His first major role as Lord of his house was to attempt to broker peace in the north.
While bloodshed was avoided that day the north could not avoid it for long. In the years that followed Harlon focused on raising his family and growing wealth. Soon the Stark cubs couldn't help but find an enemy to point their swords at and the Northern forces went to fight the forces of Pentos and Braavos. While no men of note from House Karstark were lost. The cost of war did hit them hard.
With coming of Harlon's fortieth year, he and his family traveled south with the rest of the Northern nobility to celebrate the new queen's coronation.

Alaric is the first born son to Harlon and his wife(leaving it open for connections). Although he quickly learned that his father had a injury that made him different than other northern men he didn't understand why that made him a lesser man.
Alaric saw the leader his father was and for that he was always proud of him. Harlon didn't need to win glory in battles. He won glory by bettering the lives of those around him.
Alaric always had a way of getting in trouble. Not because he was a bad kid but because he always seemed to be where he shouldn't. Because of this he would often overhear the gossip of those in the keep and would take it to his father if he felt it was of note.
Alaric joined his uncles and traveled to fight against Pentos and Braavos. It was in these battles that he killed his first man. What he learned that day was like his father he didn't have a taste for blood. Instead he would continue to use his skills to gather information.
When it was announced they would be traveling to the capital Alaric was very happy. Lots of places to sneak into and words to overhear there.
