I finally found a spot for my very first base, but now I'm struggling between making it, learning how everything works, and wondering how tf yall survive outside the south beach. I'm terrified to go in the trees, I have so many dodos and realized I probably don't need 15, I lost two boats. One got stuck, the other some Grey fish jumped me right before herbivore island.

People weren't kidding when they said it's a grindy game. I played all weekend and barely got the foundation for a large house down. I kept getting side quested on all those boats, a random level 80 raptor, and taming trikes

Should I invest in a smithy and forge now? Would it even matter at level 40? Should I have more done by now? I keep putting my eggs in too many different baskets
