T.W. (I’m unsure as to triggers involved in this community so read at your own discretion.)
I (19M w/ ADHD-C) recently discovered the term ARFID and subsequently started learning about it.
This happened as I tend to not ingest enough food or water on a regular basis, although I don’t have any issues with food, whether it be textures, flavours, or certain ingredients. So I came to the conclusion that I probably couldn’t have anorexia nervosa because to my understanding that wouldn’t involve fear of weight gain/high calories or body dysmorphia.
From what I have read common symptoms/correlations involve:
Problems with texture
Problems with certain foodstuffs
Fear of choking/vomiting
Eating based anxiety
Anxiety of eating around others
Is it possible for someone to have ARFID if they enjoy food and don’t have any of these correlations?
I’m an apprentice chef and I love cooking, and trying new foods, but when I comes to maintaining a regular eating schedule or calorie intake I simply cannot make it work. I either forget entirely, or brush off the thought of eating if it isn’t convenient to do so at the time.
Thanks in advance for any advice. <3
Tl:dr I (19M w/ ADHD-C) am wondering if I have ARFID even though I don’t have most of the associated symptoms/correlations.
