I go to a fairly rural school in Iowa, so we're not very big on AP classes. This past year as a junior, I took AP Calc and, with some difficulty, managed a 5 on my first-ever AP exam. In the year to come, I'm taking AP Stats (which is with the same teacher I had for calc, and she is really wonderful at teaching) and AP Bio. Now, I'm a can of beans compared to some folks on this subreddit, but I have set my school's ACT score record with a 34, and I'm currently ranked valedictorian of my class. However, I'm got some fears about AP Bio...
The AP Bio teacher at my school can't teach. Period. He knows hardly anything about the subject matter, he isn't familiar with the test - he didn't even know that there was math on it until his students came back from the exam this past year and told him. In fact, the highest score anybody got this year was a 3, and 80-90% of the class scored a 2 or a 1.
So the question I pose is: how can I score high on the exam if I have no teacher to help me? I might be going into a premed track at college - still undecided for now - so a high score might really help me. I would love to get a 5, but looking at the latest curves that seems like it might be out of reach. Any help is appreciated!
