While I was going to college online for my criminal justice degree, I wasn’t getting any help from family or anything like that so I needed a job where I could make a reasonable salary, and ended up, on the recommendation of one of my cousins, working as a prison guard at the only maximum security prison in the state where I reside. After graduating, I immediately began looking for other jobs and got the hell out of there at the first opportunity, because it was such a nightmare working in that environment. Morally, mentally, and physically it was exhausting, and I saw the toll that it took on the guards, nurses, and psych staff who worked there for many years. AMA!
