AITAH FOR RUINING THE MOTHER IN LAW OF THE BRIDES DRESS
Post Body

Disclaimer this is longer than I thought it would be

Hello everyone, I hope this post finds you well.

Let’s just jump right into this one.

Soooooooo I would like to know if I am the A-Hole for ruining the Mother in Law of the Brides dress and refusing to pay for the damages of the dress to be restored.

Last year, 2023, I received an invite to a wedding from a friend that I met in college. We weren’t super close but we did have some significant moments together in which I shared advice with her and was also there to comfort her. We will call her Emma(Fake name) and yes Emma is the bride mentioned.

Emma and I hadn’t talked for about a year and a few months at the point that I received the invitation to her wedding. I was so surprised and so happy for her as getting married is something she had mentioned a few times during her relationship with one of our mutual friends at college. Their relationship didn’t last.

But no fear because now she has a new fiance and even though I don’t know the guy one bit he seemed like a great guy. I had called Emma upon receiving the invitation and said that I would 100% be at her wedding. Rain or shine I would be there and that I was so happy for her. We ended up catching up over the phone and she explained that her fiance is one of the sweetest men she has ever met and she genuinely seemed so happy. We ended the phone call with a great moment of rekindling our small but good friendship with one another.

Fast forward to about a week before the wedding and I get a call from Emma asking me for help.
I went to school for Acting and vocal performance and sprinkled in there were some classes for sewing, makeup techniques et cetera. I began branching out into different makeup aesthetics apart from theater because it was fun. That is the reason Emma had called me. Apparently, someone had pretended to be Emma over the phone and canceled the reservations made with the hair stylist, the makeup artists and a few other things. Emma wanted to know if I could help and I said yes.

She was so thankful and asked how much I would charge and I basically cut my costs to about a 1/4th of what it would normally cost. Shhhh lol. Im comfortable financially so Im not worried about it.

Cut to the day of the wedding.

I arrive to the venue and am directed to the room the Bridesmaids, maid of honor and Bride are getting ready in.

I run to my friend and say that I am so excited for her and I thank her for allowing me to come.

She introduces me to all the bridesmaids and finally the maid of honor.

The maid of honor is the grooms sister and she seemed rather off put by my presence. But I slowly realized it was not just me. It was everyone that essentially was bringing the wedding together.

My intuition kicked in and I knew she was the one who canceled the other makeup artist and hair stylist.

Anyways, literal hours and hours go by of me doing the makeup for these women. And every time I went to find the maid of honor to do her look she was gone so I just moved to the next girl. No big deal but my thinking was that maybe just a bit more time should be spent on the maid of honor and the bride since they are the closest to the center and will have more attention on them.

Finally the maid of honor comes back into the room. Emma is pretty ticked at this point. Emma asks her to sit down so I can start. She sits down and says I dont want a man touching my face.

Emma lays into her because she never said she had a problem with this before.

Im not sure what to do at this point because we really dont have a whole lot of time before the ceremony but i also want to be reespectful

After a bit of back and forth between Emma and the Maid of honor. The maid of honor finally concedes and I immediately start working. The MOH keeps pulling away from me and some of her makeup smears so I have to restart.

Finally I tell her, “I don’t think you wanna go out there looking like a cold mess so please just sit still so I can be done quickly” cold mess because there was nothing hot about it. Finally I finish her look and my God I have never seen more crooked eyeliner but we were out of time.

So there is some time before the ceremony where people in the wedding walk around and take pictures. The Bride and the groom try to avoid one another for traditions sake.

I finally meet the groom, Daniel (fake name). Daniel seems a little panicked because he cant find his mother and like friggin clockwork she comes rushing into the foyer.

I could not believe my eyes. This woman was not only wearing white but she was wearing what I assume was her wedding dress.

I am gagged and speechless. I had to take a second to compose myself and then I searched for Emma.

I find her and tell her that there is another woman wearing a wedding dress in the foyer.

She begins crying. She tells me that these people have put her and Daniel through so much hell. I had at this moment realized that Emmas future mother in law was the hag in the dress.

Apparently there is a huge laundry list of things that her in laws said and did to ruin this day for her.

Eventually Emma asks me to do something about her mother in law. I have literally no clue what to do but I of course would love to see justice served haha.

I suddenly remember that I have very dark foundation because two of the bridesmaids have deep black skin shades.

The only thing I could think of was to smear the black foundation on my tux.

You could sort of see the foundation but only if you were really looking.

I find the mother in law and thankfully she is in the hallway alone. I introduce myself and give her a long and firm hug to really sink it in because I wanted her to remember me haha

I scram to get to my seat to escape her wrath and luckily the ceremony began just in time and she didnt notice right away. I heard some faint shrieks and crying from another room while the bridal party took their places all except for a certain Maid of honor.

The ceremony was fantastic and Emma and Daniel are now wed.

We get up to leave and walk into the foyer and the Mother in law and maid of honor are waiting for me. She screams at me and calls me every name in the book. THEN she accuses me of sabotaging her dress because”I wanted to see her take it off”.

To which I said “Bitch, Im gay”. I promptly left the scene, got my makeup and went home.

Fast forward to present day, I received a call from the maid of honor saying I needed to pay for the damages otherwise they would sue. I refused.

Am I the ahole?

Thats all for now.

Idk, it seems worth it to have been my friends fairy-gay-mother for her wedding.

P.S. i tried to keep this short as possible.
