I have been in the hospitality business in various ‘tipped’ positions for over 20 years. I have always made less than normal minimum wage. I have busted my ass to earn the tips that I earned be it either serving tables, bartending or dealing tables games at casinos (yes that is a strenuous job, I promise you). At all times having to work at a fast pace while performing exceptional service to many wonderful people as well as many assholes. I have and always will tip very well when it’s earned even though I am not in hospitality anymore. Nowadays everywhere you go people push you to tip, regardless of what they are getting paid. Now with touch less payment often when you pay a screen pops up asking if you want to tip 15%, 18% or 20% if not even higher options. For handing me a slice of pizza? For handing me a smoothie? For every little thing everywhere you go. Too many things for me to list but feel free to mention things that you agree are kind of crazy. I may be TIA with how things are nowadays but I’m sure that you will all let me know.
