I (17f) am a senior and I'm homeschooling. My school has berly started doing prom last year when I was a junior. The prom was for every high-schooler. So my mom took me and my brother and my brother's friend and the friend's mom so we could see how prom works. I did have fun for a bit but then my mom got mad at me for dancing with a girl because she said that I came with my guy friend and that I need to dance with him. But he told me that I can go dance with other people because he wasn't in the mood to dance. But then there was my brother who was dancing with every girl in sight then leaving them. My mom and dad talked to him after and said he can't do that.

So this year is technically my prom and I wanted to go by myself without my mom or brother there. Which I think is fair since one my brother is a sophomore and two my mom. I just really don't want either of them their and yea the prom is for all years but I wanted to have this one to myself as it's my last one and my brother is gonna have two more to go to anyway one when he is a junior and then when he has his prom just like how im gonna have mine. I tried to tell my mom but she got mad and said that " op doesn't want mom or her brother to go."

Which yea is true I don't want my brother or mom to come! The first time yea it made sense but now that its my actual prom I want this one to myself.

I told my older sister about it and she just laughed and said "why don't you Stat n one side of the room and he stays on the other side."

At that point I wanted to cry because she doesn't get it and my mom doesn't get it and I just really don't wanna go anymore.

So reddit AITAH got not wanting my mom or brother to go to prom with me?
