So I (17M) have lived with my mom for the majority of my life, however we’ve always lived with my grandmother and when we didn’t it was because my mother was addicted to pills and bouncing in between living with friends. I’ve done the best I can to always to try make her proud when ever I can, but even since I was a kid she would always make any event I attended or anything I had done and make it about her. I’ve never been able to express my feelings or opinions to her without being invalidated and her telling me how she has it “so much worse” when in reality my grandma pays for everything (within reason) that my mother asks for. Meanwhile I have a stable job after graduating and while I don’t have a car title in my name I make the car payments to my grandmother and phone payments every month and any money I spend of my grandmothers with her permission I pay back in full. My mom has always told me I’m entitled and that I’m selfish when all I have ever done is try to take care of my family. Recently I came back home a little later than usual after spending some time with some friends and she went in on me and I’m used to the arguing and yelling however as I reach my 18th birthday in less than 2 months I feel it’s my right to go where I want with in reason and I’ve always tried to respect her no matter how much she has always claimed to hate me. Now the next morning I had finished doing the things I needed to and was just relaxing when she sets off on me again and I finally just took a deep breath and said I’d be home later, she then told me to “go to hell” and I said in retort “as long as it’s away from you” and left for the day. Yesterday she asked me “since when we’re you able to just ignore your mother” to which I replied “last I checked I’m no longer listening to you” and left again. My mom hasn’t contacted me since my gf is in support of me standing against my mom and my grandma agrees with me as well. I don’t know why I’m seeking answers here but I’m curious AITAH?
