So I come back from my 15 min break, and my coworkers are all having a heated discussion laughing and yelling about something. I asked what happened because usually something that causes this sort of commotion means what someone got into it with a customer.
Apparently, one of my louder, more aggressive, coworkers saw a kid picking their nose and wiping the booger on the floor. While ringing up her mom, she yelled at the kid to stop it and that it was disgusting. The mom was so shocked and embarrassed that she was stunned and just took her stuff and left. My coworker was saying that the mom was a bad mom and the kid wasn't raised right, and they were disgusting people.
I was still waiting for the part that I deemed abnormal, but it never came. I then laughed and said, "Is that it? how old was the kid?" To which I was answered 5 or 6. I was in tears. "It is normal behavior for children and that they are disgusting constantly. She got furious and said her kids never picked their nose. I asked her, "Are you sure?" She then retracted and said well they never wiped it on the floor. "" My response."At least they didn't wipe it on anything in the store, " which set her off even more. She started shouting about how she didn't want booger on her shoe. "Well, at least it's not the gum. We keep having to scrape off the floor, and adults do that." She got even more furious.
Everyone was laughing along with me which I noticed and just ended the convo there and said "I don't think it's a big deal but thats just my opinion" She then tried to get at me and said "Would you let your kids pick their nose?" And I said "Probably just not wipe it on the floor for their sake but like it happens" She then called me disgusting and tried to get others to agree with her which she did to no avail and I just went back to work.
The rest of the day, she would ditch her shift, walk off, take long breaks, and listen to music furious at me, giving me mad looks and looking for me to mess up all day. I started feeling bad as I didn't think it was a big deal, but maybe I didn't take her feelings into consideration when I dismissed that situation.
