Nanashi is a disgraced samurai/ronin who swore never to draw his sword after executing two children. But sometimes, old gunslingers samurai need to forsake oaths they made in the past to protect their friends.
Still to that end we should note that in character Nanashi won't willingly draw his sword unless his new friends are in danger.
Strength
Humans in Sword of the Stranger are generally somewhat superhuman. These are some feats done by some of the other humans in the series which Nanashi is likely comparable to.
Luo is able to cut through a metal gun barrel with his sword.
A Samurai General is able to lift a Ming Soldier up while they are impaled on the end of his spear.
An unknown soldier throws a small stone through a wooden wall.
Durability
Speed/Mobility
Should be comparable to Luo who can jump several meters in the air.
Luo who Nanashi fights twice is able to block/deflect arrows.
Skill
Throws a sword a long distance to stab a Ming Soldier in the neck.
Cuts a thin sash off of a monk without cutting the clothing beneath it.
Survives a 2v1 and quickly starts turning it around as soon as he gets a lethal weapon.
Defeats two Ming Soldiers in combat starting from a disadvantageous position (no sword).
Defeats a fairly strong Ming Soldier without drawing his sword.
With his sword he defeats Luo, who is pretty skilled.
- Luo is fairly skilled here are two of his fights that don't involve Nanashi,
- Luo vs a bunch of bandits.
- Luo vs the Samurai Commander

- Notable aspects of this fight,
- Starts off without a real weapon, still manages to break the first Ming Soldier's arm.
- Recovers immediately from the fall and manages to avoid getting killed in the 2v1 despite only have their scabbard as a weapon.
- As soon as they get a real sword Nanashi immediately starts turning the fight around by killing one of the soldiers.
- Even after being blinded Nanashi manages to use some equipment he had on hand to cause the Ming soldier to lose their footing and tackle them off the ledge removing them as a threat.
Defeats a fairly strong Ming Soldier without drawing his sword.
- Notable aspects of this fight,
- He doesn't have a "real" weapon for the entirety of the fight.
- Uses an improved weapon to disable a Soldier.
- Deflects a knife into said soldier's head.
- He does almost get hit by a throwing knife but his foot broke through the floor and the Ming Soldier's whip was wrapped around his arm and scabbard.
- Breaks the Ming Soldier's arm without getting hit.
- Manages to accurately drive hits sword scabbard into the Ming Soldier's throat to kill them.
With his sword he defeats Luo, who is pretty skilled.
