Nanashi is a disgraced samurai/ronin who swore never to draw his sword after executing two children. But sometimes, old gunslingers samurai need to forsake oaths they made in the past to protect their friends.

Still to that end we should note that in character Nanashi won't willingly draw his sword unless his new friends are in danger.

Strength

• Kicks a Ming Soldier backwards a few meters.

• Kills a Ming Soldier by crushing their throat with hits sword's scabbard.

• Breaks a person's arm.

• Breaks another person's arm

• Knocks out a priest.

• Can cut through decently thick wood with his sword.

Scaling Feats

Humans in Sword of the Stranger are generally somewhat superhuman. These are some feats done by some of the other humans in the series which Nanashi is likely comparable to.

• Luo is able to cut through a metal gun barrel with his sword.

• Luo is able to lift a Soldier's corpse up and run with it using it as a shield without slowing him down much.

• A Ming Soldier back hands a kid across a room.

• A Samurai General is able to lift a Ming Soldier up while they are impaled on the end of his spear.

• An unknown soldier throws a small stone through a wooden wall.

Durability

• After getting stabbed through the arm, falling off a ledge, and breaking through a wooden wall, Nanashi is able to pull the sword out of his arm and block a leaping attack from Luo.

• Survives a wooden building collapsing onto him, though this does knock him out for a while (note this clip is cut so that all the flash backs are removed.

• Is somewhat stunned after taking a hard landing.

• Takes some strikes from Luo.

• Easily regains his footing after the horse he is riding on gets killed.

• Tossed into a wooden beam by a Ming Soldier who is fairly strong after this he continues to fight without any apparent issues.

• In his final fight with Luo, he takes a number of minor cuts, gets stabbed through the arm and side of his abdomen. The movie is ambiguous on if he survived these wounds or if he bled out before they reached the nearby village.

Speed/Mobility

• Dodges and kills a Ming Soldier with his sword draw as he is running past them even through his sword was still partly bound to the hilt.

• Deflects a knife.

• Jumps over a Ming Soldier.

• Leaps over a ravine

Scaling Feats

• A Ming soldiers (who Nanashi fights against several times) is able to intercept an arrow (with their arm) before it can hit someone.

• Should be comparable to Luo who can jump several meters in the air.

• Luo who Nanashi fights twice is able to block/deflect arrows.

  • Same thing but sowed down.

Skill

• Throws a sword a long distance to stab a Ming Soldier in the neck.

• Throws a knife nailing a person's hand while on horseback (the only reason that didn't work is the person can't feel any pain).

• Cuts a thin sash off of a monk without cutting the clothing beneath it.

• Quickly deals with two bandits.

• Survives a 2v1 and quickly starts turning it around as soon as he gets a lethal weapon.

• Defeats two Ming Soldiers in combat starting from a disadvantageous position (no sword).

• Defeats a fairly strong Ming Soldier without drawing his sword.

• Is on the back foot against Luo without drawing his sword.

• With his sword he defeats Luo, who is pretty skilled.

• Tosses some medicine he had been carrying on the ground to get a Ming Soldier to lose their footing (this was shortly after he had been temporarily blinded by getting blood in his eyes.

• Cuts a thin sash off of a monk without cutting the clothing beneath it.

• Quickly deals with two bandits.

• Survives a 2v1 and quickly starts turning it around as soon as he gets a lethal weapon.

• Defeats two Ming Soldiers in combat when starting from a disadvantageous position.

  • Notable aspects of this fight,
  • Starts off without a real weapon, still manages to break the first Ming Soldier's arm.
  • Recovers immediately from the fall and manages to avoid getting killed in the 2v1 despite only have their scabbard as a weapon.
  • As soon as they get a real sword Nanashi immediately starts turning the fight around by killing one of the soldiers.
  • Even after being blinded Nanashi manages to use some equipment he had on hand to cause the Ming soldier to lose their footing and tackle them off the ledge removing them as a threat.

• Defeats a fairly strong Ming Soldier without drawing his sword.

  • Notable aspects of this fight,
  • He doesn't have a "real" weapon for the entirety of the fight.
  • Uses an improved weapon to disable a Soldier.
  • Deflects a knife into said soldier's head.
  • He does almost get hit by a throwing knife but his foot broke through the floor and the Ming Soldier's whip was wrapped around his arm and scabbard.
  • Breaks the Ming Soldier's arm without getting hit.
  • Manages to accurately drive hits sword scabbard into the Ming Soldier's throat to kill them.

• Is on the back foot against Luo without drawing his sword.

• With his sword he defeats Luo, who is pretty skilled.
