Tetsuo Shima

Tetsuo was an ordinary delinquent motorcycle gang member until a chance encounter with a Psychic unlocked his psychic potential. After that his powers started growing with no real end in sight.

Because of his powers getting stronger over time the feats in each section are in chronological as they appear in the film.

Theme.

Before we get into the RT itself, the beam weapons are probably "lasers" it is never specified exactly what they are in the film.

They are called lasers/beams of light in the Manga and the writer/illustrator for the Manga is the director of the film so this probably carries over.

That being said, they are a bit slow for actual lasers and every other speed feat in the movie isn't anywhere near low percents of the speed of light let alone the speed of light itself.

As for their power because Tetsuo does take a few shots from them.

• They can easily penetrate several meters of flesh.

• They can also punch holes through stone.

Notable Fights

Offencive Psychic Power

• Turns people into goop.

• Uses psychokinesis to heavily damage a hallway and crush a group of soldiers.

• Destroys some constructs that some other psychics built around themselves.

• Projects a wave of force that damages the floor and punches a hole in a wall.

• Blows a hole in a stone wall.

• Eliminates a group of soldiers with a wave of force.

• Throws a bunch of rocks into a high up ceiling.

• Firstly he prevents a tank's main gun from firing, then he crushes the tank. It is likely that the explosion was cause more by the munitions inside the tank exploding rather than as a direct result of his power.

• Destroys a bridge.

• Can fire energy beams.

• After his fight with Kei, (see Tetsuo vs Kei in notable fights section) the large metal sphere they were fighting around collapses.

• Makes a explosion.

• Sends a bunch of rubble flying into the air.

• After dodging a laser, slams into the ground hard enough to rise a large platform into the air.

• Shatters a large concrete platform and throws the rubble at his opponent.

Defensive Psychic Powers

• Creates an air bubble so is not affected by gas.

• Defensive psychokinesis to block a tank shell.

• Creates a barrier which bends laser beams around him.

• Creates a barrier to block an attack from another Psychic.

• Blocks an orbital laser.

• Creates some kind of field around himself to protect against vacuum.

Utility Psychic Powers

• Scries the location of the other Psychic Children.

• Reads another Psychic's mind to find the location of Akira.

• Teleportation.

  • The above was his first teleport, as he figures out his powers his teleportation will likely be more like this.

• Controlling electronics, causing doors to open on their own without having to brute force through them.

• Large scale psychokinesis.

• Flight.

• Replaces his arm that got blasted off with a metal arm that seems to work pretty much as well as a normal arm.

Speed/Reaction Time

• Catches a tank shell with his powers.

• Leaps out of the way of a falling pipe.

• Blocks a laser after it was fired.

• Blocks another laser after it was fired.

• Dodges a laser after it was fired.

• Flies into orbit.

Durability

• Falls off his motorcycle at relatively low velocity and gets back on his bike with no visible injuries.

• Gets thrown off his bike at high velocity and takes serious injury but is still conscious.

• Gets thrown into a wall, though you can't hear it because this is a gif, he laughs it off.

• Gets hit into a metal pipe by a bigger metal pipe and appears to be unharmed.

• Another Psychic, who is weaker than Tetsuo, impacts the ground hard enough to create an explosion but is knocked out. He can likely at least accomplish a similar feat

• Takes a hit from a laser rifle, this injures his arm.

• Takes a laser to the chest though the laser was running out of battery power so it probably was weaker than other laser shots.

• Takes a hit from an orbital laser platform, this removes his injured arm but he is otherwise unharmed.

  • Here he is showing the extent of the arm injury.
  • We should note, he never does seem especially troubled by the blood loss.

• Stands within a fire from a helicopter crash with no problems.

• Shows no discomfort in walking around in a super cooled area.

  • Outer rooms are 118 degrees kelvin or -155.15 C or -247.27 F.
  • The inner most room (probably inside the thing labeled "Akira" in the above gif is .005 kelven.

Metal Arm

Towards the end of AKIRA, Tetsuo replaces his arm that got blown off with a metal arm. This arm seems more durable than his body so it gets it's own section. We should also note, he does feel pain when the arm is hit by attacks.

• His metal arm is undamaged by a laser, but it did cause him pain.

• His metal arm takes a bullet that has WAY more momentum than it has any business having.

Other

• Tetsuo's powers throughout the movie are constantly growing. Part of this is simply due to him developing his powers the other part of this the drugs that were suppressing his powers start wearing off. When these drugs wear off his powers start becoming uncontrollable.

• His metal arm starts uncontrollably integrating into things.

  • This integration is strong enough to shatter stone.

• After his drugs wear off more he can make fleshy/mechanical extensions of his body to grab things that are far away.

• When the drugs wear off completely this causes him to turn into a flesh monstrosity that grows uncontrollably and tries to absorb people around it. We should also note that normal people will be crushed shortly after they are absorbed and their pain will flow into Tetsuo.

  • This flesh is very vulnerable to laser rifle fire.

• With Akira he creates a singularity/big bang thing which destroys much of Neo Tokyo.

  • It was described by the scientist fellow as "the birth of a universe".
