Considering how Davey’s lyrics can be, I’m curious as to what are considered the worst.
I've been on a Burials deep dive so I'll pick on that one
"May you feel this, while you sleep
Push the poisonous thorns in you"
I just think 'poisonous thorns' is so clunky with too many syllables. One thing I love about their lyrics is that the meaning and arrangement of words are beautiful but so are the words chosen and the way they sound. Kurt Cobain said he chose many lyrics for the beauty of the sound of the word, not necessarily the meaning. It really confused a lot of people. Anyway, poisonous thorns, although an apt metaphor for this deadly rose of a woman, could have been phrased....differently, better. I just haaaate poisonous thorns as a phrase. Say it quickly and it sounds like a German command.
Also, all of Greater than 84. Davey is not a social commentary/political lyricist and his attempt at it there falls flat and disingenuous. It shows itself in lyrics like
"Will you hold my hand as we count down the hours... the hours Standing beneath the meteor showers? You won't read it in the papers In this time, keep your hands clean, just read my mind We're trapped between the nightmares And I fear the future's here It's 1985 (and it feels like, feels like survival"
Again clunky words and phrases, and please who is still reading newspapers?
In I Hope You Suffer? That's pretty toothy

Most of the songs are pretty deep, I agree
