My son is considering AFROTC (among other options) during college starting fall 2020. He wants to go to a mechanical engineering school and is also interested in aerospace - most likely Mines, Colo State, or CU Boulder. We've talked to a recruiter briefly at a fair and looked at the website, but the information is somewhat vague.
What does the daily schedule look like compared to a non-ROTC student?
What additional commitments are there during the summers/holidays?
What does the ROTC actually pay for - tuition only? Partial tuition? Room and board? Set amount?
What are the chances of being accepted? He is a 3.5 GPA student with a higher ACT, spent several years in BSA, reached Star but not Eagle. Some history of Asthma/allergies as a child but it is well controlled without daily meds.
What are the likely career options, durations, and locations after graduation for a mechanical engineering degree?
