Now hear me out before you downvote, please hear me out. I’m not a Hangman hater, or a hater of any kind, I’m not even a WWE hater, I’m just happy for the wrestlers, I’m happy there’s another company to help put food on our athletes tables. That being out of the way, I think Hangman’s run was by far the weakest run in AEW. When Jericho had the title it felt like it had promise because of the build up, him being EVP, and just the whole idea of him feeling like he IS the company when he had the title really made it feel heavy, Jon Moxley had the most defenses of any of the champions, Kenny Omega’s title run had the same amount of opponents as Hangman but he was actively defending like 4 titles at the time. For being a “fighting champion” hangman is tied for the least amount of defenses as champion AND 4 out of his 8 opponents have been the same people. He had bangers, winning against Kenny was a pop, the Danielson matches were for the books, but just, I don’t but into the whole “fighting champion” thing when he didn’t even have the most title defenses, maybe I’m stretching but when I think of fighting champion I think of defending the title every week, I understand that is a lot to ask for, but if you’re going to give yourself a title, at least live up to it ya know? That being said, Hangman is one hell of a wrestler, definitely deserving of the title, I just wish his run was more fitting.
EDIT: Typos, and Jericho was never an EVP
