Anybody got a good method for finding artifacts that you know were generated but you somehow missed while killing your way through one of the dungeons? The best I've got right now is retracing my steps through every single dungeon level and checking every pile of garbage loot. It is less than fun.
obligatory disclaimer: I've played through several real games and won in years past, but I've been exclusively scumming and playing other games with no permadeath since significant work stress and small children became part of my daily life. I'm able to devote 15-20 minutes and 40% of my brain at most to anything that I get to play, so I'm taking what I can get.
That said, my human thief is having a very good run. I got decent precrowning artifacts and found the quicksilver bracers after a surge of power in the dungeon. Thanks to finding the potion belt shortly after accumulating a zillion garbage potions and right before a series of mind-numbingly dull conference calls, I got both individual attribute and gain attribute potions that brought me up to 99s in everything but perception which is still a 78 (82 after the bonus from the Helm of the Night Watchman). I read something about the Elemental Mana Orb decreasing your score by 3 when you use it to open the portal so I'll probably carry some extra attribute potions just because. I found the vault for the first time ever so I've got uncounted millions in gold and Protector, bracers of might, scroll of the finder, and...maybe Masher? from that. Later on I found The Wall, so with all the spellbooks I've picked up I could dual-wield two of the best shields in the game and throw Sonic Boom while tossing miles-long beam spells and popping off massive area affect ball spells because 99 Wisdom is insane. Oh, and I've got a stack of decent non-artifact longbows and True Aim in case the boomerang decides not to come back at some point.
I still need a cloak, boots, and a necklace that aren't at risk of being destroyed by one of the million things that can disappear my equipment because if I'm going to scum this thing I want to be the most impressive scumlord ever. During one of my wild killing sprees I apparently came across some artifacts that I missed at the time though I've been particularly focused on neckwear and cloaks so I don't know how. I only discovered that I missed them because I did something stupid and died so I saw the list of generated artifacts was longer than I expected. Reloaded from last save, quit just to check, confirmed that the Cloak of Oman and Venom Mantle are out there somewhere. I've looked through all of the shops, had to kill Blup's mom because she didn't take kindly to me picking things up off of her floor, even went tile by tile through the casino gift shop. I went all the way down and am working my way all the way back up and it is so. very. tedious. particularly after I stuck around the small cave too long and hit lvl 50 while I was making sure I didn't leave them there.
If I could just raw chaos or exchange the stack of less-than-great artifact weapons I've accumulated along the way or trade them to someone for other artifacts that I actually want, I'd be all set. Or if the scroll of the finder actually had a "find the other artifacts" setting - I've got enough scrolls and potions of cure corruption plus the elemental gauntlets that I could deal with a little corruption in exchange for that. Arg.
