Just decided on medication for my son [7yoM] and feel i've failed him.
Post Body

Hello everyone, I'm a parent of a 7yo who has been diagnosed with ADHD for about two years. We have tried other options other than medication, but this year he is in second grade and is really struggling in school with being able to focus due to being overstimulated with noise. He will get up walk around the class and refuse to do school work at school. It's to the point where he won't be able to get a passing grade to move on. He is on a 504 program and I don't believe his teacher is following the program as his previous teacher had, and she said to me "I've been teaching for thirty years, and never not been able to get to a child. I just can't get to him" and came off super dismissive of him. My son also told me she had pushed and pulled him to get him away or to follow her. I brought this up to the principal and she is investigating it. All of this to say we decided to try medication which was really hard for me to agree to, but I don't want him to struggle if it is something that will help him. Please tell me there are others who have felt like they've failed....(I know I haven't, but am just afraid it will change his personality) He is a good boy at home, struggles to stay on task but does well with redirection. The doctor prescribed him 15mg of Adderall which feels like a lot, but she told me it goes by weight. I'd love any tips/reassurance or advice anyone to give to help ease my mind or things to look out for other than the basic loss of appetite and sleep.

TLDR: I've finally decided to let go of my hesitancy and have my son try medication and feel that I've failed him by doing so.
