Antidepressants, Adderall and jaw clenching
Post Body

Hi!

Okay so I started taking 30mg Adderall 2x daily about 3 years ago. At the time I was taking 50mg Pristiq. Pristiq was the first antidepressant that had ever actually helped my clinical depression and social anxiety.

I didn't have any issues with the two together. I stopped taking Pristiq about a year ago due to job and health insurance loss and I noticed that a few months after my jaw clenching got so bad. It's all day long, I'm constantly chewing my cheek and tearing it up. I've woken up with chipped teeth and cuts on my tongue. I get a lot of blisters on my cheeks now too. I feel like a drug addict because I'm constantly biting my lip and making weird expressions because of the cheek biting etc.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I was going to ask my doctor but the price in my visit goes up the more time I spend with him and he's a talker.

...oh.

😅

No. I haven't experienced it but I'm pretty sure what the problem is.

Your antidepressant and Adderall both hit Norepinephrine which causes clenching. You may want to either get switched to Wellbutrin as a combination approach or get switched to a stimulant containing only Dextroamphetamine or Lisdexamphetamine. That hits primarily Dopamine and thus avoids the issue.

(There's more to it but that's the cliff notes).
