I’ve been on Xaggitin XL for 3-4months and it has changed my life for the better in so many ways.
It’s often one of the first drugs given by the NHS because it’s much cheaper than name branded bio-equivalents, so lots of people try it and many titrate onto a different drug. This post is mainly for those who haven’t started medication and are worried to, or have searched Xaggitin XL on the subreddit and seen some not so positive reviews and now feel apprehensive about it (as I did).
Disclaimer: everyone reacts differently to different medications, your doctor/nurse/prescriber is the most qualified source of advice.
I’m 22F and take 54mgs in the morning, with a 5mg XR booster in the late afternoon.
I’ve experienced minimal side effects titrating up to the 54mg, there was a day or so of fuzziness as my body adjusted, and I have had some appetite suppression, but nothing major on this dose.
I tried 72mg for a week, but it was far too strong. I felt nauseous all the time, felt very depressed, and was overall not able to function. I have moved back down to 54mg with a 5mg afternoon booster for days when I want to be extra productive for longer.
I am genuinely so happy to be on this medication, my brain feels as though my thoughts are queuing up one at a time rather than drowning me, I fall asleep much more easily, I’ve been able to work for hours at a time without losing focus, and as a result my mental health is the best is has been in a decade. This is everything that I wanted from my medication, and it feels so so good.
Medication isn’t a silver bullet, but my god has it been a hell of a crutch.
If you’re starting your journey I wish you the best of luck, may your titration be smooth and the side effects minimal!
