I have young kids (3 and 1). I have severe adhd. I didn’t get diagnosed till I was well into my 30’s, but looking back on my life, I could recognize a lot of adhd traits through my teens and 20’s. Also looking back, I could recall my mom being adhd (don’t know my bio dad) but she never really believed in mental health.
With everyday passing, I notice things with my children that could be diagnosed as adhd. I know that you can’t diagnose till later on when they’re older. Personally I don’t want to have them diagnosed in their adolescent years. Or if they do get diagnosed, to do our best with avoiding medicating them and teaching them coping skills to work with their adhd, unlike what my adolescent years were like. When they’re adults, they can explore medication if they want.
I’m curious what other parents are doing or have done.
