I was diagnosed with ADD when I was probably 6-7, I am now 23 (apologies for any type-o's or misspellings, I am learning to touch type after all these years!). As stated before, I was diagnosed with ADD as a child. Now I believe that I have ADHD-C. That being said I have started taking Vyvanse again recently. I took 20mg for a month just to get used to it again. I am now at 40mg a day but I am finding that I lose the effect while it is still needed and could do with a bit stronger effect. Now, there are multiple things I am proud of.
First of all, I am proud because I got a raise at work. I only work as a cook right now and have been doing so for 5 years (3 summers at the place I work now). But hey, I started out a bit over minimum wage (which is usually what a cook gets paid) and I got $1.50 raise this summer. Not the best, but it is helping me save for school! (I was originally training to be a chef but the pandemic showed me the instability of the industry). That being said I think that people with ADHD can make some of the best cooks and chefs!
Second, I am proud because I was able to notice that I was struggling. I was also ashamed of my ADHD most of my life. So for me to decide to go to a doctor again and decide that I needed medicine was a big step especially at $100(ish)CAD a month for 40mg of Vyvanse. But the thing that pushed me to it was going to school this winter. I want to upgrade so that I can go into computer science and English literature and creative writing!
Third, the things that got me to write this are; I was writing down what I needed to talk to the doctor about (which is and I quote,
- "Body Acne
- Possible either higher dose of Vyvance or two doses a day or both. (I prefer to have the effects all day as I feel I am able to do more, but also stronger because I feel that the effects are good, could be better and the side effects are either non-existent or mangable) Thinking 60mg or 50mg in the morning and 30-40mg at night.
- Talk to a counselor or therapist about ADHD and ADHD related stresses, troubles and childhood ADHD trauma (Ideally an ADHD specialist) as well as other ADHD related symptoms."
Unfortunately I have been using anti perspirant and work in a kitchen which is a naturally greasy place). But I have also signed up for insurance and set up and eye exam.
TLDR - I have only recently (at 23 yo, have learned more about ADHD realized I needed help, gotten help, realized I needed more help, got that help, and just realized how deep in the shit I was and am now investing in my future and my health).
TLDR2 Booglaoo two - If you feel you need help, it is worth investing in yourself and your future.
