I was reading comments to a post and thought maybe this might be helpful..
Who is the person calling you weird? I promise you, they spend a great deal of time and energy judging themselves. (harshly) Imagine the energy it takes constantly checking for cues, rules, values outside themselves. Here you come along and throw all that out the window.
Again, they experience you, and ALL that energy that they spend is null and void. They are so into themselves they start a little verbal skirmish in order for you to "straighten out!"
You're weird...
In this one way, adhd is a gift. Yes, I realize it sure seems like being "in" would be SO much easier. But, you have solved a problem many have their whole lives wasting energy "fitting in." "In" changes every time they take a breath. Happiness is fleeting at best constantly chasing "in."
Meanwhile, you just ARE. The path to happiness in your own life is no less hard. I would argue it's got fewer distractions.
Lastly, my response would be something like, "interesting! Tell me what makes you feel that way" and just keep asking them for more and more detail. It was never about you. Keep it on them.
They are adult children, not much going on there. Nothing with which to engage.
Edit: my snarky response probably doesn't translate well.
