I decided nearly two years ago to start learning Japanese. Partially out of curiosity, partially of wanting to learn a language that doesn't rely on the alphabet, and partially because why stop at two languages when there are dozens of really interesting languages out there?!
I almost gave it up because while using Duolingo, I lost a streak of around 150 days last year. I had cleared the notification without following through and doing the lesson twice in a row somehow. =(
It tried to sweet talk me into giving them a few bucks to get that streak back, but I ultimately decided it was a sign that I should start it over. I removed my progress and started learning again. The review was helpful, especially because they had pushed a big update to make the lessons more intuitive. Progressing through the courses was just as encouraging the second time as it had been the first time.
Today, at last: 365 day streak.
To anyone else here working towards the same goals: Good luck! Buena suerte! がんばって!
