And now I have some questions:
Those of you who have tried any stimulus / response type tests for ADHD (such as the Test Of Variables of Attention) - what did you find most challenging? Did any of the results surprise you? Did they teach you anything about yourself you hadn't fully realised before?
Yes I know these things are not objective tests for ADHD, but rather they simply give you some data which may or may not be useful. But I was curious about your experiences, for those of you who have tried any (whether independently or under medical supervision).
I tried a TOVA-clone through the PEBL software.
For the first half, I was thinking 'this is way too easy' and in the second half I was stressed out to the max. I constantly felt like an idiot. I got commission error rates (aka impulsive responses) in the second half of 45%. This was on a fairly small dose of meds. This evening I tried again, knowing what to expect, thinking I'd probably do better somehow. My commission error rate was 55%.
Has anyone else had error rates like that when they did the test? I found a study where adults with ADHD had an average of 16%, with a standard deviation taking it up to around 35%.
