If you are challenged by the routine of going to/transitioning to sleep, I stumbled onto taking 10mg of non-sleep medication, memantine (aka Nmenda) in the evening, about an hour before I sleep. Until recently, I was taking 10mg Memantine in the morning. I forgot one day and took it in the evening instead. Wow!!! Sleep was so restful and the transition was so easy compared to the rest of my life.
Here's some research done on a small population of anxiety disorder patients that discusses sleep. https://www.hindawi.com/journals/crips/2012/749796/
I've posted my experience with Memantine before. I find it very helpful for my social issues/anxiety related to ADHD. This is most definitely an off-label use and a lazy Psych will probably not consider it because it's off-label and not well known. There are risks and this isn't a cure, so you need to really understand it and your particular needs.
Memantine works on the NMDA receptor. (NMDA agonist) My understanding is, this is a very complex receptor and poorly understood as compared to others. Again, this is an off-label use, so it isn't researched to exhaustion and isn't well known.
Anyone else have experience with NMDA agonists?
