So I just wanted to comment on something one of my professors did today.
As we were going over standard syllabus stuff, we came to the Office of Accessibility portion. I think professors legally are required to say, "If you need accommodations, talk to the Office of Accessibility." That's nothing new. But one of my professors made an addendum today:
"If you're struggling in my class and don't know why, if you're trying to study but can't concentrate, if you're doing everything you can be to be a good student but you're still having difficulty, talk to them about getting tested for learning disabilities. I know a lot of people are ashamed to reach out for help, but you really shouldn't be. Quite a few people pass through high school without having any trouble but get to college and hit a brick wall."
Coincidentally he was staring at me as he finished up... maybe not so coincidentally because I was fidgeting like a madwoman.
I really wish I had him about three years ago when I started college, instead of three years of professors telling me that I just wasn't trying hard enough.
TL;DR: Professor in one of my classes told students that may be struggling to get tested for learning disabilities and it made me really happy.
EDIT: Either I'm older than I think I am or I just can't count. I've been in college three years, not two and a half.
