It feels like a damn miracle but I'm afraid that it will be short lived.

Post Body

I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until last summer and my psychologist and I have worked to find a dosage of medication that works effectively. I feel like I've found it. After spending the entirety of my academic career struggling to barely pass. This medication makes me feel like goddamn superwoman! I can see the difference, my parents, my girlfriend and even my classmates and professors can see it too. I'm partipating more in class, I take more in depth and focused notes, I ask more questions, and I get my work done on time and it's of a quality that I'm satisfied with. I even feel more energetic and I feel better about myself as a whole. Parts of my executive disfuntion have started to lessen and I'm taking better care of myself and my environment. It finally feels like I can function like a normal person. The best word I can use to describe this is euphoric.

However...

I'm afraid that as this semester progresses that this feeling will go away, the positive impact the meds have will go away and things will go back to the way they were. Back to when I would struggle to focus in class, when I would barely make deadlines or turn work in late, when I would turn in assignments that I'm not proud of because I had no drive or energy to make it decent quality, and when I was sluggish and tired all the time. Worst of all I'm worried I will go back to hating myself for not being in control of any of it. I'm afraid that this will go away and I will never be able to reach my full potential academically. I don't want to do just enough to pass. I want to do well. I want to continue to be satisfactory and make myself and my loved ones proud because I never could before.

I don't know much about how ADHD meds work or how long it takes for tolorates to build so if you have any experience with that or any advice to give to prevent a downward spiral if my meds stop working I'd love to hear it.
