I am in my late 30s (f) and long suspected that I have ADHD. I have in the past tried to get an appointment with a psychiatrist but it's very very hard to get in. I found an institution that is specialized in ADHD testing and arranged an appointment late last year, as I finally wanted to take the long road ahead and get clarity. I received an appointment fairly quickly (only 6 weeks wait time) and after two previous test appointments, today I finally received my results.
I got emotional when I received my results. Not only was it clear thanks to the tests beyond a shadow of a doubt that I have ADHD, but also that my IQ is well above average (130). You know, the years I thought I was just too stupid, the years OTHERS thought I was just too stupid ... I got laughed at in school for being too stupid, by classmates and even some teachers. I honestly cried a little bit when they showed me my results, I couldn't believe it, I honestly still can't believe it and keep thinking they must have made a mistake.
I know it was only the first step but I am honestly so relieved. I am not surprised by the result for ADHD but for the IQ test. I think not only can I now work on getting treatment for ADHD, but I can also start building my confidence back up, years of telling myself that I am just not as smart as others.
I just wanted to share with like-minded people, thanks for reading.
