proscrastination fuels the adhd brain. it is what gives us our power. unfortunately, many of us (myself included) often take this too far and responsibilites fall to the wayside. for example, i'm a court reporter and i have transcripts to work on. but i also have a cold. i've been in court and can't cough loudly or open cough drops loudly. so instead of working on transcripts, my mind wandered to a solution. and one came! a pez dispenser for cough drops. brilliant. now, i had just enough self control to stop myself from launching into the development stage, but man it was difficult. during that internal struggle is when it occurred to me how powerful procrastination really can be for people like us. how many problems have people with adhd solved while they were avoiding doing something else that they found to be more difficult or boring? so i have a proposition: we take a bunch of scientists and put them in a room and tell them they have to do their taxes. and there just so happens to be all kinds of equipment, research, etc. laying around and maybe -- just maybe -- they procrastinate their way into a cure for cancer! anyway, just an idea. and i may or may not still be procrastinating myself. or i may be a genius. you decide.
