I am 43-year-old adult with ADHD who has struggled his whole life with making decisions and managing money.
I was only diagnosed three years ago, and I can remember being impulsive with money, always in debt, and just generally paralyzed when trying to make big life decisions for literally my entire life.
I now have a partner of six years who I love and who I want to "do life "with, but when we set goals like buying a house or even getting married I can't seem to stay on track or make choices and I certainly can't seem to stay out of debt.
I've been on Adderall for these three years and done a little bit of therapy, but I really don't know how to change my behavior. I make sound plans, I try to follow through, and then something makes me panic or something unexpected happens and I am off the rails.
I also have PTSD from childhood neglect and a combat tour, most of that is resolved though I'm sure it still plays a part.
My partner loves me very much but we have talked about how frustrating and disappointing it is to have a partner who can't control his spending or make decisions.
Has anybody overcome these obstacles? How did you do it? I'm desperate and looking for any answers.
