From what I've gathered, the latter is particularly challenging for people with ADHD. The amount of thought and planning involved in crafting something long-term works the executive functions more than most with this condition can stand.
I don't remember the post unfortunately, but I saw one user point this out, and state that a solution they came up with was giving themselves short-term challenges.
That is, something like "work for one hour or pay $20 to someone if you fail."
It's an immediately accessible challenge, not something where you think "I have to study" and then conclude that it's not an urgent priority. As such you're less likely to pull that off.
With a short-term challenge? The consequence is more immediate, and the action is more doable compared to something broad like "I need to study" or "I need to pay the bills" or something like that. Neither of the two suggest urgency.
Curious if anyone else has tried this approach.
