I've tried lots of hobbies over the years, with the intention of finding "the right one" that I will stick with. But now I'm starting to accept that "sticking with something" just may not be for me, yet I need meaningful, productive, enjoyable things in my life, so I'm trying to find fixed-term/low-commitment hobbies that I can explore and am needing recommendations.
What I'm looking for:
*Something active/physical
and (additionally)
*Something mentally stimulating and/or creative
What I need:
*Something regular (for externally imposed routine) but not expected to be ongoing - needs to have an endpoint (even if it's just, for example, a class of x number of weeks)
*If no endpoint, something discontinuous (ie, it's okay to dip in and out of it - so no performance groups nor costly memberships such that I'll end up wasting money)
What I've enjoyed in the past:
Physical:
*Boxing, kickboxing
*Social sports (tennis, netball)
*Group fitness classes
Creative/mentally stimulating:
*Language classes
*Creative writing
*Cross-stitch
*Gaming
*Learning an instrument
*Acting/film-making
*Walking, camping
*Elderly visiting
Barriers:
*Overall, I don't live in or near a big city. Cost is not a major issue; the problem is available opportunities...
*There are no language classes anywhere near me
*No gaming groups
*Lots of things I've tried expect a certain level of committment/progression that I can't maintain (eg, boxing/kickboxing, music lessons)
*I don't have a friend group where I live currently
*I work full-time so can't do weekday daytime activities
*Activities that are solo and home-based are what I'm especially struggling with
Is there anything I'm overlooking in terms of things I might enjoy within my limitations?
