Hello,
Diagnosed in 2002, unmedicated since 2007. I was on Ritalin, then Dexedrine. In high school I decided I did not need medication to be “normal” and stopped taking them. Since then I’ve also been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, went unmedicated until roughly 2020 when I decided enough is enough and I had to make change. I’ve been taking Venlafaxine since, and I’ve decided that I’m okay with medication if it’s going to help me.
I’ve hated medication in general because of how much I’ve seen people fall down that hole of addiction. But I have trouble focusing at home on regular tasks. I find myself unable to focus on one thing at a time and I end up just half assing everything. I’d like to be able to pull my weight at home without getting side tracked and pulled in eight different directions. But I hated how Dexedrine made me feel. I felt like I was a zombie. These days, I’m hearing about concerta and adderal often, and I’m thinking on speaking to a doctor about starting a low dose to try and pick myself up. I’d like to read some experience from people who have used both for adhd, though.
