I choose to start my workday (outside the home) at 9, because my 10 year-old son who has ADHD has to be to school by 9. I'm lucky enough to be able to choose my own hours within reason at my job.
I usually wake him up at 7 at the latest, which is always a struggle to begin with. He likes to watch TV for a bit to help him wake up. He's time blind, and argues that I only let him watch TV for a few minutes, and he's not awake yet, even when the TV has been on for 45 minutes).
I have a helluva time trying to get him to take his meds (currently 50 mg Vyvanse, and about to switch to Jornay to help with mornings) so that he can function by the time he gets to school. Sometimes, just trying to get him to take his meds takes so long that it gets ugly, and we're already wayyy behind just from that.
He gets angry over many things (me turning off the TV, etc.) and stomps as hard as he can repeatedly (our floor happens to be our downstairs neighbor's ceiling), hits walls, etc.
In the mornings, this is what he needs to do (I try to keep it simple):
-shower (this is 100% his choice... I've given him the option to shower at night to make mornings easier for him, but he likes that the shower helps him to wake up)
-the usual... deodorant, comb hair, get dressed
-eat
-brush teeth
I make his lunch, and usually his breakfast.
BUT IT'S ALWAYS A STRUGGLE, AND I'M LOSING IT. We're always late. I spend more time trying to keep him on track than anything else, and I don't have time to get myself ready.
I don't want to wake him up even earlier. That seems ridiculous. And, we're tired. I can't get him to go to bed, either. We're usually not asleep until anywhere between 11-3:30 a.m. This kid WILL NOT GO TO SLEEP.
I'm just tired and frustrated after all these years, and yes, I'm doing it by myself. I have other kids, too.
Any tips or advice, please? Thank you.
